Ours Mal Léché Series - Flanbeer
Caramel Flan-style Pastry Wheat Ale. There are times in life when, after months of persistent nagging, you finally give in to your buddies' whims... In this case, we’re talking about the brewing fantasies of Charlotte and Simon, the duo behind the awesome *L’Ours Mal Léché* bottle shop in Strasbourg. Like us, you too will fall for these creations inspired by real-world treats. We started gently with Charlotte’s idea for "Flanbeer"—the reference is pretty obvious: a beer inspired by *Flanby*, the famous caramel-topped flan dessert. We were skeptical at first, but JP whipped up a test batch that was far too convincing not to go for the full-scale XXL version... So, we started with a wheat beer base and threw in homemade caramel along with Bourbon vanilla beans. No lactose here; the beer was pasteurized to preserve the caramel's natural sweetness (and, incidentally, to avoid ending up with a 12% ABV monster...). That simple caramel-and-vanilla combo packs enough punch to trick your brain into thinking you’re drinking a flan.
